Deuteronomy Chapter 16

Omniscient – You know everything.  You know Your Passover, and Your Feast of Booths and Your Feast of Unleavened Bread and Your Feast of Weeks.  You know what You mean.  You know how to teach me.  You know the past and the future.  You know the why’s and how’s.  You know all - that is why You are absolutely Just.  You know me.  You know my heart and my mind.  You are all-knowing.

Omnipotent- You can do anything.  You have Your Feasts and You make man rejoice before You.  You have Your appointed times.  You judge the people with righteous judgment.  You teach me, not man.  You make me understand if You just wanted to.  You make Your WORD.  You make Your Holy Spirit.  You teach me.  You are all-powerful.

Omnipresent – You are everywhere.  You are in Egypt and in the place You choose to establish Your name.  You are here with me. You are in my heart and in my mind.  You are in Your WORD.  You are all-present.

Eternal – You are the cause of time.  You are the month of Abib.  You are seven days.  You are all the days of my life.  You are the evening at sunset, at the time they came out of Egypt.  You are in the morning.  You are six days and on the seventh day.  You are seven weeks.  You are the Feast of Weeks and the Feast of Booths seven days after Israel had gathered if from their threshing floor and their wine vat.  You are the Feast of Unleavened Bread.  You are forever and ever.  You are time.

Immutable – You do not change.  Seven days Israel (me) will celebrate a feast to You My God in the place which You choose, because You My God will bless them (me) in all their (my) produce and in all the work of their (my) hands, so that they (I) will be altogether joyful.  You will never be made to change.

Self – Existent – You exist by Yourself.  You will exist even when Israel does not.  You choose.  You decide.  You make Your Feasts and appointed times to exit.  You choose the place where You choose to establish Your name to exist.  You choose to have an Asherah and a sacred pillar to exist.  You decide who lives and who dies.  It is Your creation who needs You in order to exit.

Self-Sufficient – You do not need any of Your creation to bring about Your will or Your purpose.  You choose to use Your feasts and appointed times and the place where You choose to establish Your name and an Asherah and a sacred pillar and Israel and Your WORD and me because it is Your good pleasure, not Your need, that governs Your choice.

Infinite – There are no limits or bounds to Your person or dominion.  You can do anything and go anywhere.   You know everything.  You are forever and ever.  You are limitless.

Transcendent – You are apart from Your creation.  You teach me about Yourself.  You teach me about the month of Abib.  You teach me what to do during the Passover to You.  You teach me what to do during the Feast of Weeks and the Feast of Booths and the Feast of Unleavened Bread.  You teach me about justice.  You teach not to do the things You hate.  You teach me about Your attribute JUST.  You reward the righteous.  You have them celebrate a feast to You and rejoice and live in the land You give them to possess.  You atone for sin by their sacrifices to You and doing what You command them.  You punish the unrighteous who do the things You My God hates.  You are absolutely just.

Sovereign – It is You Israel worships.  It is You I worship.  It is Your WORD who teaches me about Yourself.  You have Israel celebrate Your feasts and sacrifice to You where You choose to establish Your name.   You give Your commandments and these statutes.  You made humans.  You made Your Word and all the hosts of heaven.  You made me.  You lead me.  You are in complete control and You are doing Your foreknown plan!

Holy – You are a morally excellent, perfect being.  You separate Your Feasts and appointed times for Your purpose.  You separate me by Your Word through Your Son for Your purpose.

Gracious – You show Your favor to Your people by having them celebrate and rejoice before You and atoning for their sins.

Merciful – You show Your people Your compassion by giving them Your statutes to observe them that they remember that they were a slave in Egypt.

Righteous – You are always right.  You teach the right way.  You have Israel appoint for themselves judges and officers in all their towns which You My God gve them, according to their tribes, and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.

Longsuffering - You are patient with Your people and slow to anger.  You give them Your statutes so that they will remember that they were a slave in Egypt.

Loving – You love Your people and give them what they need.  You lead them and take care of them.

Good – You give Your people a part of Yourself.  You give them Your statutes and You warn them and teach them.  You teach me Your righteous judgments.

Wise – You do the things You do to give me information about Yourself.  Your appointed times and statutes are a part of Your wisdom.  Your wisdom is higher than my wisdom.  Your thoughts are higher than my thoughts.

Truthful - You always speak the truth.  Your Word is every utterance of Your truth.  It is reality.  Your Feasts and appointed times are the truth.  Justice is the truth.  You say what You mean.  I shall eat the breast of affliction, in order that I may remember all the days of my life the day when I came out of the land of Egypt.  I shall count seven weeks for myself.  I shall celebrate the Passover to You, and I shall celebrate the Feast of Weeks to You, with a tribute of a freewill offering of my hand.  I shall give just as You My God blesses me; and I shall rejoice before in Your feast.  Seven days I shall celebrate a feast to You My God in the place, which You choose, because You My God will bless me in all my produce and in all the work of my hands, so that I will be altogether joyful.  Faith is not knowing You can do what You say, but that You will do what You say.

Faithful – You always do what You promise.  ‘You shall’ implies it is promised.  When it says I shall rejoice before You My God, me and my son and my daughter and my male and female servants and the Levite who I in my town, and the stranger and the orphan and the widow who are in my midst, in the place where You My God chooses to establish Your name, that is what You will do.  And I shall remember that I was a slave in Egypt, and I shall be careful to observe these statutes.  You have more faith in me that I have in myself.  You my God will bless me in all my produce and in all the work of my hands, so that I WILL BE ALTOGETHER JOYFUL.  I believe You My LORD.  I know it!

Wrathful - You will destroy all unrighteousness.  Israel shall appoint for themselves judges and officers in all their towns, which You My God is giving them, according to their tribes, and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.  I shall not distort justice; I shall not be partial, and I shall not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the words of the righteous.  Justice, and only justice, I shall pursue.

Jealous – I shall not plant for myself an Asherah of any kind of tree beside the altar of You My God.  Neither shall I set up for myself a sacred pillar, which You My God hates.  You will not share Israel or me, who are rightly and morally Yours with any other creature.

Just – What is Justice?  What is Just?  Just is not the same as fair.  Is it Just because You don’t like it then I must be punished?  Just because You like it You will reward me?  Just because You want to?  Just because You can?  Then You are JUST?  Just because You say so?

·      Just – Lev 19:36; Job 25:4; Ps 17:1; Zech 9:9; John 5:30; 1 Pet 3:18

·      Justice – Deut 16:19; Job 8:3; Job 36:6; Ps 89:14; Prov 28:5; Is 59:14; Amos 5:24; Matt 23:23; Luke 7:29; Col 4:1

·      Just Balances – Deut 25:13-16; Ezek 45:10

·      You shall not have in your bag differing weights, a large and a small…

·      You shall have a full and just weight…

·      Jesus is Just.  His judgment is just, because He does not seek His own will, but the will of Jehovah God who sent Him.

·      Shall not the Judge of all the earth deal justly?

·      Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Thy throne; lovingkindness and truth go before Thee.

·      God is fair in all his actions.  Since He know all, every decree is absolutely just.

·      Justice, and only justice, I shall pursue, that I may live and possess the land which You My God is giving me.  How do I be more like You?

Incomprehensible – What do Your celebrations mean?  What do Your appointed times mean?  How shall I be careful to observe these statutes?  What does this mean?  What am I supposed to do?  What do You want from me?  What can I give You?  What am I supposed to learn My LORD?

Is what is Just always fair?  What is just?  How do I not go against You?  How can I be just like You?  JUST.
