Omniscient – You know everything. You know Moses and all of Israel. You know there is a base thought in my heart, saying, ‘the seventh year, the year of remission, is near’. Yu know my eye is hostile toward my poor brother, and I give him nothing. You know that it will come about that a slave says to me, ‘I will not go out from you’ because he loves me and my household, since he fares well with me. You know the heart conditions of Your human creations. You know me. You know my heart. You are all-knowing.
Omnipotent- You can do anything. I will lend to many nations, but I will not borrow; and I will rule over many nations, but they will not rule over me. You my God will bless me in whatever I do. You make me understand if You just wanted to. You are all-powerful.
Omnipresent – You are everywhere. You are in the land and in the towns in my land. You are in every place. You are here with me. You are in my heart. You are in Your WORD. You are all-present.
Eternal – You are the cause of time. You are at the end of every seven years. You are six years and the seventh year. You are every year and millenniums. You are today and forever and ever. You are time.
Immutable – You do not change. You My God will bless me in whatever I do. Faith is not know that You can do it, faith is that You will do what You say. You will never be made to change.
Self – Existent – You exist by Yourself. You will exist even when I do not. You choose. You decide. You make up Moses’ existence and Israel’s existence. You make up Your commandments’ existence and Your Word’s existence and my existence. You decide who lives and who dies. It is Your creation who needs You in order to exist.
Self-Sufficient – You do not need any of Your creation. You do not need Israel to bring about Your will or Your purpose. You choose to use Moses and Israel and Your commandments and me because it is Your good pleasure, not Your need, that governs Your choice.
Infinite – There are no limits or bounds to Your person or dominion. You can do anything forever. I am finite. I have limits and bounds. You are limitless.
Transcendent – You are apart from Your creation. You teach me about Yourself. You teach me about Your mercifulness. Your festival where everyone and everything is forgiven. The poor are helped and taken care of. Slaves are set free, and everything You ask or have chosen is consecrated to You. Thank You Jehovah My God.
Sovereign – Your remission has been proclaimed. You will surely bless me in the land which You my God is giving me as an inheritance to possess. You redeemed me. You are in complete control and You are doing Your foreknown plan!
Holy – You are a morally excellent, perfect being. You separate Israel for Your purpose. You separate the first-born males that are born of the herd and of the flock for Your purpose. You separate me by Your truth through Your Son for Your purpose.
Gracious – You show Your people Your favor by giving them land as an inheritance to possess. Your remission has been proclaimed.
Merciful – You show Your people compassion by forgiving them and giving them Your commandments to do all that You ask. You do not send a slave that has been freed away empty-handed. You provide a way for them to be accepted. You are a compassionate God.
Righteous – You are always right. You teach me the right way. The remission of debts is the right way. Observing Your commandments in Your Way.
Just – You punish the guilty, atone for sin, and reward the righteous who listen obediently to Your voice.
Longsuffering - You are patient with Your people and slow to anger. You forgive them.
Loving – You love Your people and take care of them. You give them land and bless them as You have promised them. You freely open Your hand to me, and generously lend me sufficiently for my need in whatever I lack.
Good – You give me a part of Yourself. You give me Your Word and Your commandments and grant me a remission of my debts to You. I am Your slave.
Wise – Your wisdom causes You to do the things You do. Your wisdom is higher than my wisdom. Your thoughts are higher than my thoughts.
Truthful - You always speak the truth. Your Word says every word You speak. I am trying to listen obediently to the voice of You My God, to observe carefully all this commandment which Your Word is commanding me today.
Faithful – You always do what You promise. You My God shall bless me as You have promised me, and I will lend to many nations, but I will not borrow; and I will rule over many nations, but they will not rule over me. Faith is not that I know You can do all of this but that You Will do it.
Wrathful - You will destroy all unrighteousness who will not listen to You and do what You ask.
Jealous – You will not share Your people or Your commandments or Your Word, who are rightly and morally Yours with any other creature.
Incomprehensible – Why do You repeat Yourself over and over again? Why am I not getting it? Why do I not understand? How do I listen obediently to Your voice, to observe carefully all this commandment which Your Word, Moses? Jesus? Is commanding me today? Is it me? I feel like I am part of Israel, chosen to be a priest, to minister to You. I’m sorry My LORD for lacking faith. I don’t feel chosen. I don’t feel as though I am listening obediently so therefore it, Your Word is not speaking to me, is He? How do I do all of these commandments? You know I will let You down. You know my heart. I am not worthy and I do not understand.
Is this Chapter about Your mercifulness? Is Deuteronomy teaching me about Your attributes? All that You command seems foreign to me. What are You saying? What am I supposed to do? How does this relate to me?
So, this chapter is interesting because it reminds me of what has been said to me. Believe it or not.
