Deuteronomy Chapter 17

Omniscient – You know everything.  You know Israel and me will do detestable things.  You know we are only evil all of the time.  You know they will set a king over themselves.  You know he will multiply horses for himself and multiply wives for himself.  You know my heart and my mind.  You know the past and the future.  You are all-knowing.

Omnipotent- You can do anything.  You can purge the evil from their midst.  You give them the land to possess it.  You put it in their hearts.  You teach them.  You have them do it.  You choose the king for them.  You have them do it.  You choose the king for them.  You give them all of Your commandments.  You make me understand if You just wanted to.  You are all-powerful.

Omnipresent – You are everywhere.  You are in Israel’s midst.  You are in the midst of Your people.  You are in the place, which You My God chooses.  You are here with me. You are in my heart and in my mind.  You are in Your WORD.  You are all-present.

Eternal – You are the cause of time.  You are all the days of all of our lives.  You are 3,000 years ago.  You are forever and ever.  You are today.  You are time.

Immutable – You do not change.  I shall purge the evil from my midst.  I shall come to the Levitical priest or the judge who is in office in those days, and I shall inquire of them, and they will declare to me the verdict in the case.  You will never be made to change.

Self – Existent – You exist by Yourself.  You will exist even when Israel does not.  You choose.  You decide.  You make up Israel’s existence.  You make up my existence.  You make up Your commandments and Your law and Your statutes’ existence.  You make up Your Word’s existence.  It is Your creation who needs You in order to exist.

Self-Sufficient – You do not need any of Your creation to bring about Your will or Your purpose.  You choose to use the place which You establish Your name.  You choose to let evil exist in the midst of Israel that they may see for themselves.  You choose to use the Levitical priest and the judge who is in office in those days.  You choose to let them declare to Israel and to me the verdict of the case.  You choose the king they set over for themselves.  You choose to use all these because it is Your good pleasure, not Your need, that governs Your choice.

Infinite – There are no limits or bounds to Your person or dominion.  You know everything, can do anything, and can go anywhere.  You are all of my life and forever and ever.   You are limitless.

Transcendent – You are apart from Your creation.  You teach me about You.  You teach me that whatever has a defect I shall not offer.  You teach me that he who sacrifices to any other god shall be utterly destroyed.  If any case is too difficult for me to decide then I shall arise and go up to the place which You My God chooses.  When I enter the land and I say, ‘I will set a king over me like all the nations who are around me’, You will choose him.  You will have the king write for himself a copy of this law on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical priests.  You teach me that You are self-sufficient.  You choose to use these ways because it is Your good pleasure, not Your need, that governs that choice.

Sovereign – You make ox and sheep that have a blemish or a defect.  You know a man or a woman who does what is evil in the sight of You My God, by transgressing Your covenant You have made.  You have things to difficult.  You place a king.  You are in complete control and You are doing Your foreknown plan!

Holy – You are a morally excellent, perfect being.  You separate me by Your truth through Your Son for Your purpose.  You separate Israel and Your covenant for Your purpose.

Gracious – You show Israel Your favor by teaching them about Yourself.  You make sure there are two or three witnesses and do not put him to death on the evidence of one witness.  You are there for them for any case to difficult for them to decide.  You choose the king over them.  You watch over them.

Merciful – You show Israel Your compassion by making sure they are evil before they stone the man or woman to death.  You give them the Levitical priest and the judge for Israel to inquire of them, and they will declare the verdict in the case.  You are compassionate.

Longsuffering - You are patient with Your people and slow to anger.

Just – You punish the unrighteous, atone for sin, and reward the righteous who listen to You.

Righteous – You are always right.  You teach the right way.  Your covenant is the right way.  Your Levitical priest and judge are the right way.  The king You choose is the right way.

Loving – You love Your people and You take care of them.  You give them what they need.

Good – You give them land to possess and live in.  You give them a place where You choose to establish Your name.  You give Your people a part of Yourself.

Wise – You know Israel will sacrifice blemished sheep.  You know a man or a woman will do evil in Your sight by transgressing Your covenant.  You know a case will be too difficult for them to decide.  You know they will set a king over themselves.  You know th have the king write for himself a copy of this law on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical priests.  Your wisdom is higher than my wisdom.  Your thoughts are higher than my thoughts.

Truthful - You always speak the truth. If there is a man or a woman who does what is evil and if it has been inquired of thoroughly then the man or woman shall be stoned to death.  If a case is too difficult to decide, then arise and go up to the place which You choose and come to the Levitical priest or the judge who is in office in those days and inquire of them, and they will declare the verdict in the case.  Your WORD speaks Your truth.

Faithful – You always do what You promise.  You are their God and they are Your people.  Faith is not knowing that can do what You say, but that You will do what You say.

Wrathful - You destroy all unrighteousness.  You stone to death the man or woman who does evil in Your sight.

Jealous – The man or the woman who does what is evil in the sight of You My God, by transgressing Your covenant, and ahs gone and served other gods and worshiped them, or the sun or the moon or any of the heavenly host does not love You.  You will not share Your people, who are rightly and morally Yours with any other creature.

Incomprehensible – Why do You have sacrifices to You?  Why do You require it?  Why is all this information in Your WORD?  Why is it important for me to know?  How do I know who is evil?  I can’t stone anyone to death.  That is murder.  Thou shallt not murder.  What is Just?  Is it alright to murder someone who makes You jealous?  Is it right to stone someone to death?

Is a Levitical priest a judge both able to declare the verdict in a case.  Why do You put that power in human hands?  What is right?  What is Just My LORD?

Were the people afraid and not act presumptuously?  Why did You let them set a king over themselves?  Why do You say ‘he shall not multiply horses for himself, nor shall he cause the people to return to Egypt to multiply horses…’.  And why do You say ‘neither shall he multiply wives for himself, lest his heart turn away; nor shall he greatly increase silver and gold for himself’?  Didn’t they all?  Why My LORD?

How do I learn to fear You?  How do I listen to You?  How do I stop sinning against You?
