Deuteronomy Chapter 27

Omniscient – You know everything.  You know what Moses and the elders of Israel charged the people.  You know what Moses and the Levitical priest spoke to all of Israel.  You know what Moses charged the people on that day.  You know Moses.  You know Your WORD.  You know me.  You know my heart and my mind.  You are all-knowing.

Omnipotent- You can do anything.  You give Your commandments.  You set up Mount Gerizim and Mount Ebal.  You bless and You curse.  You put into the people’s heart to say “Amen”.  You put Moses in charge of Your people. You can change my heart and give me knowledge and understanding.  You can teach me about Yourself and You heavenly throne.  You make me understand if You just wanted to.  You are all-powerful.

Omnipresent – You are everywhere.  You are across the Jordan.  You are at Mount Gerizim and at Mount Ebal.  You are in Your WORD.  You are in my heart and in my mind.  You are here with me. You are all-present.

Eternal – You are the cause of time.  You are then and when.  You are on the day and today.  You are now.  You are time.

Immutable – You do not change.  It shall be on the day when I shall cross the Jordan to the land which You My God gives me, that I shall set up for myself large stones, and coat them with lime and write on them all the words of this law, when I cross over, in order that I may enter the land which You My god gives me, a land flowing with milk and honey, as You promised me.  It shall be when I cross the Jordan, I shall set up on Mount Ebal, these stones, as Moses/Jesus/ Your WORD is commanding them today, as I coat them with lime.  You will never be made to change.

Self – Existent – You exist by Yourself.  You will exist even when Your creation does not.  You choose.  You decide.  You make up Moses’ existence.  You make up the elders’ and the Levitical priests’ existence.  You make up Your blessings and Your curses.  You make up Your commandments.  You make up Your Word’s existence.  You make up my existence.  You decide who lives and who dies.  You make up my existence.  It is Your existence Your creation needs for their own existence.

Self-Sufficient – You do not need any of Your creation to bring about Your will or Your purpose.  You choose to use  Moses and the elders and the Levitical priests and Mount Gerizim and Mount Ebal and Your blessings and Your curses and Your division of the tribes and Your commandments Your WORD and me because it is Your good pleasure, not Your need, that governs Your choice.

Infinite – There are no limits or bounds to Your person or dominion.  You can use people and divisions and Mountains.  You can do whatever You want whenever You want.  You are limitless.  You are generations past and future generations forever and indefinitely.

Transcendent – You are apart from Your creation.  You teach me to keep all the commandments which Moses and Your Word commands me today.  You teach me this day Israel (I?) has become a people for You My God.  You teach me about Mount Gerizim and Mount Ebal.  You teach me cursed is the man who dishonors his father or mother.  Cursed is he who moves his neighbors boundary mark.  Cursed is he who misleads a blind on the road.  Cursed is he who distorts the justice due an alien, orphan, and widow.  Cursed is he who lies with his father’s wife.  Cursed is he who lies with any animal.  Cursed is he who lies with his sister.  Cursed is he who lies with his mother-in-law.  Cursed is he who strikes his neighbor in secret.  Cursed is he who accepts a bribe to strike down an innocent person.  Cursed is he who does not confirm the words of this law by doing them.  You teach me that Moses charged the people.  Moses and the elders charged the people.  Moses and the Levitical priests spoke to all Israel.  You teach me that Moses commands Israel.  Moses charged the people on that day.  You teach me how cursed a person is for those who do those things, several of which are part of The Ten Commandments.  You teach me that all the people say, ‘Amen’ after each curse.   You teach me about Yourself and Your Ways.  You help me to understand You, not just that You do do it, but why You do it.

Sovereign – It is You I worship.  You put Moses in command.  You put Your Words into his mouth.  You curse who You want to curse.  You give Your commandments.  You separate the tribes the way You want.  You know why.  You lead me and teach me.  You are in complete control and You are doing Your foreknown plan!

Holy – You are a morally excellent, perfect being. You separate Israel for Your purpose.  You separate the tribes You want for a blessing and want for a curse for Your purpose.  You separate me by Your truth through your Son for Your Purpose.

Gracious – You show Your favor to Your people by giving them all the words of this law, when I cross over, in order that I may and Israel may enter the land as Your promised.

Merciful – You show Your compassion to Your people having Moses and Jesus lead them and teach them Your Ways.

Longsuffering - You are patient with Your people and slow to anger.  You warn them about Your curses.

Just – You punish the guilty, atone for sin, and reward the righteous who listen to You.

Righteous – You are always right.  You teach the right way.  Your commandments and Your statutes are Your Way.

Loving – You love Your people.  You take care of them and give them what they need.

Good – You give Your people a part of Yourself.  You give them Your blessings and Your curses.  You are self-existent.

Wise – You do the things You do to teach me and show me.  Your wisdom is higher than my wisdom.  Your thoughts are higher than my thoughts.

Truthful - You always speak the truth.  You will bless those on Mount Gerizim and You will curse those on Mount Ebal.  One day I might have a wonderful tree where people come and I teach them all the things You have taught me.  You teach me Your truth.  It is reality.

Faithful – You always do what You promise.  You lead me to Your land.  You make me Your people.  You teach me all the things I need to know.  You have more faith in me that I have in myself.

Wrathful - You destroy all unrighteousness.  You curse the unrighteous until You destroy them.

Jealous – You will not share Your land, or Your people, or me who are rightly and morally Yours with any other creature.  Those who make You jealous are cursed.

Incomprehensible – Why does Moses and the elders of Israel charge the people?  Why does Moses command Israel?  He is a prophet where everything he says comes true.

·      How do I know when to listen to and follow a man?  Moses is a human man who sins and makes mistakes?  Who do I follow?  Do I follow elders of my city and priest?  All elders and ALL priests?  How are they different?  How do I know?

·      Follow 9imitate, pursue) Deut 6:14; Ruth 1:16; 1 Sam 12:14; Ps 119:150; Hos 4:2; Matt 4:19; 4:20; 16:24; Mark 5:24; 5:37; John 10:27; 18:15; Jude 16; Rev 14:4

·      So do I do what I am told always until it does not abide by Your LAW?  Why did they Follow Him (JESUS)?  Wasn’t He just a man?  Not sinful of course, but was He perfect?  Why did they follow Him My LORD?  I know You sent Him just as You sent Moses because we are too afraid of You and do not want to speak to You.  But aren’t You here now?

·      “If anyone wishes to come after ME (JESUS), let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.  Matt 10:38; Luke 14:27; Heb 12:23; James 1:18

·      Matt 16:24; Mark 8:34; Luke 9:23; 14:27

·      These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because he is Lord of lords and king of kings, and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful.

·      Matt 22:14 – What is my cross?  Chosen – Matt 24:22; 2 Pet 1:10; Rev 17:4

·      What am I supposed to do?  What is expected of me?  Right now do I only follow Your Word?  Luke 28-36?

·      Cross – Matt 10:38; 27:40; Mark 15:21; Luke 9:23; Acts 5:30; Luke 5:5; 9:49; Matt 17:4; Mark 9:5; Mark 9:6; 1 Cor 1:17, 18; Gal 6:14; Phil 2:8; 3:18; Col 1:20; Heb 12:2; Rom 8:5; Col 3:2

·      How do I not become distracted?  How do I know the difference between the Holy Spirit and demons distracting me?

·      John 4:2; Acts 10:48; 1 Cor 2:1, 4, 13; 2 Cor 10:10; 11:6; Acts 2:47; 2 Cor 2:15; 4:3; 2 Thess 2:10; 1 Cor 1:21; 23:28; 2:14; 4:10; Rom 1:16; 1 Cor 1:24; Luke 20:16; Gal 2:17; 3:21; 1 Cor 2:2; Gal 2:20; Col 2:20; Rom 6:2, 6; Gal 2:19; 5;24

·      The brandmarks of Jesus – Is 44;5; Ezek 9:4; 2 Cor 4:10; 11:23; Rev 13:16 – mark on the foreheads

·      It is for discipline that I endure

·      The power of God – the called – Rom 8:28; 1:16; 1 Cor. 1:18

·      The wisdom of God – Luke 11:49; 1 Cor 1:30

·      I haven’t died in sin have I?  I am still living in it.

·      Have I been baptized in Jesus’ death?

·      How do I do that?

·      But aren’t I still a slave to sin?  How do I not be a slave to sin My LORD?

·      How do I live to God?

·      Do I belong to Christ Jesus?  Have I crucified the flesh with its passions and desires?  But I still have passions and desires My LORD.

·      I have no understanding My LORD.  I am weak and I am very tired.

·      Am I cursed My LORD?  Why do you have so many curses My LORD?  Why not just kill me?  What does it mean to be cursed?  A curse is the opposite of a blessing?  Why don’t You just kill me?  Why don’t You kill me for my sins?  Why am I alive?  What are curses for?

·      Jesus became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption…

·      Curse – Gen 27:12; Deut 11:29; is 65:15; Jer 44:12; Zech 14:11; Gal 3:13; Gen 12:3; Ex 22:28; Lev 19:14; 2 Sam 19:21; Job 3:1; Mark 14:71; Rom 12:14; James 3:9; Gen 3:17; 9:25; Deut 27:15; Jer 17:5; Gal 3:13

·      Why would You have blessings on Mount Gerizim the people:  Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin?  And why would You have curses on Mount Ebal the people:  Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali?  How are they different?  Why is it this way?  Is Jesus Cursed?

·      Curse – curse is the general word for calling down evil and injury on someone or something.  1)  a calling on God or the gods to send evil or injury down on some person or thing.  2)  a profane, obscene, or blasphemous oath, imprecation, etc.  expressing hatred, anger, vexation, etc.  3)  evil or injury that seems to come in answer to a curse.  4) any cause of evil or injury.

·      Blaspheme – 1) profane or contemptuous speech, writing, or action concerning God or anything held a divine.  2) any remark or action held to be irreverent or disrespectful.

·      How did Shimei curse the Lord’s anointed?  Why is it a curse?  Is it because he was angry and called him a man of bloodshed?  Isn’t that the truth?  Why was it wrong?

·      Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us – for it is written, CURSED IS EVERY ONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE – What does that mean?  Is Jesus Cursed?  What does this mean?

·      What are my questions?  What am I asking?  What am I supposed to learn?

·      My LORD, what causes You pain?  Are curses because You hurt, You are hurt by them?
