Deuteronomy Chapter 12

Omniscient – You know everything.  You know what this chapter means.  You know what it says about You.  You know what You are going to do.  You know our purpose and Your foreknown plan.  You know me.  You know my heart and my mind.  You know the past and the future.  You know how to teach me.  You are all-knowing.

Omnipotent- You can do anything.  You give me all of Your statutes and judgments.  You made Hurricane Emily.  You make Your people Holy.  You make me understand if You just wanted to.  You are all-powerful.

Omnipresent – You are everywhere.  You are at the place You say.  You are among the other nations.  You are here with me, in my heart and in my mind.  You are in Your WORD.  You are all-present.

Eternal – You are the cause of time.  You are as long as I live on the earth.  You are today.  You are forever and ever.  You are time.

Immutable – You do not change.  You will give me rest from all of my enemies around me so that I live in security.  Just as a gazelle or a deer is eaten, so I shall eat it; the un clean and the clean alike may eat it.  You will never be made to change.

Self – Existent – You exist by Yourself.  You creation needs You in order to exist.  You choose.  You decide.  You make up Moses’ existence, Israel’s existence, and my existence.  You make up Your statutes and judgments.  You decide who lives and who dies.  You will exist even when everyone else does not, when Your creation does not.

Self-Sufficient – You do not need any of Your creation to bring about Your will or Your purpose.  You choose to use Moses and Israel and me and Your statutes and judgments because it is Your good pleasure, not Your need, that governs Your choice.

Infinite – There are no limits or bounds to Your person or dominion.  I am finite.  There is a limit as to how long I will live on this earth.  How long is forever?  You are limitless.

Transcendent – You are apart from Your creation.  You teach me through Your statutes and judgments of Your jealousy.  You are jealous of Your Holy people.  Your people are holy and all of their tithes.  The law of blood makes Your people holy.  The nations are holy because they are set for destruction.  Whatever Moses (Jesus) commands me, I shall be careful to do; I shall not add to nor take away from it.  You are angry because of the wickedness of the nations.

Sovereign – You give Your statutes and judgments.  It is You Israel worships.  It is You I worship.  It is Your purpose.  You make who You want Holy.  You have the tithe, and the law of blood.  You have Israel among the nations to go in to dispossess them.  You command me.    You are in complete control and You are doing Your foreknown plan!

Holy – You are a morally excellent, perfect being.  You separate Israel and me by Your statutes and judgments.

Gracious – You give them your favor by cutting off before Israel the nations which they are going in to dispossess, and they dispossess them and dwell in their land.

Merciful – You give Israel Your compassion by having them rejoice before You and giving them meat to eat.

Longsuffering - You are patient with me and Israel and slow to anger.

Righteous – You are always right.  Your statutes and judgments are the right way.

Just – You punish the unrighteous, atone for sin, and reward the righteous who are careful to observe these statutes and judgments and listen to You.

Loving – You love Israel and me.  You take care of them and give them what they need.  You give them meat to eat and a purpose.

Good – Your statutes and judgments You have given to Israel makes holy and gives wisdom.

Wise –You to do the things You do because of Your wisdom.  You teach me about Yourself.  Your wisdom is higher than my wisdom.  Your thoughts are higher than my thoughts.

Truthful - You always speak the truth.  Your Word speaks all that You say.  Your statutes and Your Judgments are reality.

Faithful – You always do what You say.  You will give them a resting place and the inheritance, which you are giving to Israel.  You will extend Israel’s border as Yu have promised them.  What is the difference between Truthful and Faithful?

Wrathful - You will destroy all unrighteousness.  You cut off before Israel the nations, because of the wickedness of these nations.

Jealous – You will not share Israel or me who are rightly and morally Yours with any other creature.  You are a jealous God.

Incomprehensible – Is this chapter about Your jealousy or about Your holiness.  You are jealous because we are holy, we are Yours.  You have Israel tear down their altars and sash their sacred pillars because of their un-holiness.  Israel is able to touch them with dying.  ‘Tear down their altars’ – what does this mean?

Your purpose for Israel is that the place in which You my God shall choose for Your name to dwell, there Israel shall bring all that Moses commands them:  their burnt offerings and their sacrifices, their tithes and the contribution of their hand, and all their votive offerings which they will vow to You.

How will I?  And how will I rejoice before You?  Every cultic place I see, and then there is no place.  Why do I feel so hopeless?

Who are the nations?  How do I serve their gods?  How do I stop?  How do I not make You jealous?  How do I so what I am supposed to do?
