Deuteronomy Chapter 18

Deuteronomy Chapter 18

Omniscient – You know everything.  You know what is wrong with me.  You know how to fix me.   You know the tribe of Levi and who they are today. You know the Levite will come to serve in Your name.  You know Israel will learn to imitate the detestable things of other nations.  You know those other nations listen to those who practice witchcraft and to diviners.   You know  Your prophet You will raise up.  You know me.  You know my heart.  You are all-knowing.

Omnipotent- You can do anything.  You can destroy everyone.  You can destroy all those nations.  You make the prophet who speaks presumptuously in Your name which You had not commanded him to speak.  You make the prophet who speaks in Your name and the thing comes true.  You make me understand if You just wanted to.  You can change me if You just wanted to.  You can kill me now.  You are all-powerful.

Omnipresent – You are everywhere.  You are from any of the towns throughout Israel to the place where You choose.  You are in Horeb and in the land.  You are in the midst of Israel.  You are here with me. You are in my heart and in my mind.  You are in Your WORD.  You are all-present.

Eternal – You are the cause of time.  You are the past and the future.  You are forever and ever.  You are that day.  You are time.

Immutable – You do not change.  You have not allowed Your people to listen to those who practice witchcraft and to diviners.  You will never be made to change.

Self – Existent – You exist by Yourself.  You do not need any of Your creation in order to exist.  You choose.  You decide.  You make up the Levites’ existence.  You make up other nation’s existence.  You make up prophet’s existences.  You make up my existence.  You decide who lives and who dies.  It is Your creation who needs You to exist.

Self-Sufficient – You do not need any of Your creation to bring about Your will or Your purpose.  You choose to use the tribe of Levi.  You choose to use the detestable things of other nations.  You choose to use those nations.  You choose to use those who practice witchcraft and diviners.  You choose to use the prophet who speaks in Your name presumptuously which You have not commanded him to speak and the prophet who speaks in Your name and the thing come true.  You choose to use me and to use Your WORD.  You choose because it is Your good pleasure, not Your need, that governs Your choice.

Infinite – There are no limits or bounds to Your person or dominion.  The earth and the heavens cannot contain You.  You are eons of millenniums.  You will be forever.  You are limitless.

Transcendent – You are apart from Your creation.  You teach me about Yourself.  You teach me that the tribe of Levi does not have any portion or inheritance among their countrymen; You are their inheritance, as You promised them.  You teach me the priests’ due from the people, from those who offer a sacrifice.  You teach me if a Levite comes whenever he desires the place which You choose, then he shall serve in the name of You his God.  You teach me when Your people enter the land which You My God gives me, then I shall not learn to imitate the detestable things of other nations.  I shall be blameless before You My God.  You teach me those nations, which I shall dispossess, listen to those who practice witchcraft and to diviners, but as for me, You My God has not allowed me to do so.  You teach me that You are holy because You separate peoples and tribes and places You choose and things for Your purpose.  You even separate things and nations set for destruction as holy for Your purpose.  You are holy.  Thank You for teaching me about You.

Sovereign – You separate the Levitical priests.  You give them the priests’ due from the people, from those who offer sacrifice.  You My God have chosen the Levite and his sons from all their tribes, to stand and serve in the name of You forever.  You use nations.  You teach me about You.  You have those who do practice witchcraft and to diviners, but as for me, You My God has not allowed me to do so.  You raise up for me a prophet.  You are in complete control and You are doing Your foreknown plan!

Holy – You are a morally excellent, perfect being.  You separate the Levitical priests for Your purpose.  You separate that which is set for destruction for Your purpose.  You separate me by Your Word through Your Son for Your purpose.

Gracious – You show Israel Your favor.  How do You show Your favor to Your people My LORD?  Is eating a really good, huge breakfast while watching the sun rise on a beautiful ay Your favor on me?  Thank You My LORD for being gracious to me.  Being gracious to Your people is the land that You give them and the food they eat and the clothes they wear and the livestock they have.  Life is good.

Merciful – You show Your compassion by having Israel have the tribe of Levi serve You and Your prophet who speaks in Your name.

Righteous – You are always right.  You teach the right way.  Your commandments are Your way.

Longsuffering - You are patient with Your people and slow to anger.  Your people serve You and worship You.

Just – You punish the guilty, atone for sin, and reward the righteous.

Loving – You love Your people and You take care of them.  You give them everything they need.  You make sure they have food to eat and shelter and clothes to wear.  You take care of them.

Good – You give Your people a part of Yourself.  You give them what is holy.  You separate people, places, and things for them and do what is right and loving for them.

Wise – Your wisdom is higher than my wisdom.  Your thoughts are higher than my thoughts.

Truthful - You always speak the truth.  Your Word is reality. You say that they have spoken well.  You will raise up a prophet among their countrymen like Moses and You will put Your words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that You command him.  And it shall come about that whoever will not listen to Your words which he shall speak in Your name, You Yourself will require it of him.  What You say is reality.  That is what will be done.

Faithful – You always do what You say.  You always do what You promise.  Faith is not just knowing that You can do it, but that You will do it.  You have the Levitical priests’ and the prophets for Yourself to serve You and to speak in Your name.  You are Israel’s God and they are Your people, Your possession.  You lead me to You.

Wrathful – You will destroy all unrighteousness.  You will destroy all the detestable things of those nations.  There shall not be found among Your people anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.  You will destroy all of them.

Jealous – You will not share the Levitical priests, or Your prophet, or Your people or me, who are rightly and morally Yours with any other people or creature.

Incomprehensible – Why doesn’t the Levitical priests’, the whole tribe of Levi have no portion or inheritance with Israel?  What does it mean that they shall eat Your offerings by fire and Your portion?  They get nothing?  Nothing is theirs?  What does it mean that You are their inheritance?  Why do they get what is ‘due’ from the people?

What does it mean that they shall eat equal portions?  Why does it say ‘except what they receive from the sale of their fathers’ estates?  ESTATES?  If they do not get an inheritance then what estates do they mean?

How do I not imitate the detestable things of those nations?  How do I be blameless before You My God?  How do I not listen to those who practice witchcraft or to diviners – who are they?  How are they prophets?  Any prophet?

Why has Israel spoken well?  Would Israel have died in Horeb on the day of the assembly?  Why have they spoken well?  Ex 20:18,19; Deut 5:23-27

What does blameless mean?  Blameless – faultless – 2 Sam 22:26; Job 12:4; Ps 18:30; Prov 28:10; Acts 24:16; Eph 1:4; Phil 3:6; 2 Pet 3:14; Jude 24

Then they said to Moses, “Speak to us yourself and we will listen; but let not God speak to us, lest we die”.  They said it because they are afraid.  Does that mean they do not love You if they will not speak to You?  Or does that mean if You speak to them they will die?

You do speak with man, yet he lives.  So why would they continually say that?  Why are they afraid?

Having integrity

The just and blameless man is a joke.

Integrity – the quality or state of being complete; 2 the quality or state of being unimpaired; perfect condition; soundness; 3  the quality or state of being of sound moral principle; uprightness, honesty, sincerity
