Numbers Chapter 11

Omniscient – You know everything.  You know those who complain of adversity. You know who has greedy desires and why.  You know how to teach them about You.  You know Moses.  You know his heart.  You know me.  You know my heart.  You are all-knowing.

Omnipotent- You can do anything.  You send a fire to burn among them and a severe pestilence.  You speak to Moses and You have Moses speak to Israel.  You lead Israel through the desert.  No one is dying or not taken care of, they are just complaining.  You have this written down for me to read.  You are teaching me about Yourself.  You are all-powerful. Your power is not limited.  You show Israel Your Word and Your truthfulness and Your faithfulness and Your Graciousness.  Your spirit rested on the elders and they prophesied.  You sent forth a wing (Your force) and brought quail from the ea, and let them fall beside the camp, about a days’ journey on this side and a days’ journey on the other side (how far is that?), and about 3 FEET deep on the surface of the ground.  THAT IS INCREDIBLE.  That is ALL-Powerful My LORD.

Omnipresent – You are everywhere. You are at the tent of meeting, in the midst of Israel.  You are in Israel’s hearts.  You are in Taberah and in Kibroth-hattaavah and You are in Hazeroth.  You are here with me.  You are in my heart. You are all-present.

Eternal – You are the cause of time.  You are one day, two days, five days, ten days, and twenty days, and a whole month.  You are a days’ journey on this side and a days’ journey on the other side.  You are all day and all night and all the next day.  You are forever and ever.  You are time.

Immutable – You do not change.  The name of that place was Taberah (burning) because Your fire burned among them.  Moses prays to You.  Jesus prayed to You.  You answered Moses.  You answered Jesus through Your actions.  Moses (and Jesus) went out and told the people the words of You.  A young man ran and told Moses (Jesus) and said, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp”.  The name of that place was called Kibroth-gattavah (the graves of greediness), because there they buried the people who had been greedy.  You will never be made to change.

Infinite – There are no limits or bounds to Your person or dominion. There is no limit to Your Spirit or the quails You provided.  You are without limit.

Holy – You are a morally excellent, perfect being.  You separate Israel from those who are greedy.  You separate the seventy elders for Your purpose.

Gracious – You give Moses help.  You take of the Spirit who is upon Moses and placed Him upon the seventy elders.

Merciful – You do not consume all of Israel and You give them meat to eat.

Longsuffering – You are patient with Israel and slow to anger.  You give them a chance and make it a teachable moment.

Just – You punish the guilty, cover sin, and reward the righteous.

Righteous – You are always right.  You teach the right way.  You teach not to be greedy.

Loving – You love Israel and You care for them.  You give them what they need exactly when they need it.  You give them Your Sprit and quail to eat.

Good – You give them Your Spirit.  You place Him upon seventy elders.  You help Moses.

Wise – Your wisdom causes You to do the things You do to teach and to give information.  Your wisdom is higher than my wisdom.  Your thoughts are higher than my thoughts.

Truthful – You always speak the truth.  You come down and speak with Moses and have him gather seventy elders of Israel and You took of the Spirit who was upon Moses and put Him upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with Moses (Jesus), so that he shall not bear it alone.

Faithful – You always do what You promise.  You have Moses tell they will eat meat tomorrow for a whole month and they do.

Wrathful – You punish the unrighteous.  You consume those who have greedy desires and You strike the people with a very severe plague who had been greedy.

Jealous – You will not share Israel who are rightly and morally Yours with any other creature.

Self – Existent – You exist by Yourself.  You will exist even when Israel or Moses does not.  It is Your creation that needs You to exist for our own existence.  You decide.  You choose.  You choose my existence.  You make-up Your Spirit’s existence.

Self-Sufficient – You do not need any of Your creation to bring about Your will or Your purpose.  You choose to use Moses and Your Spirit and the quail because it is Your good pleasure, not Your need, that governs Your choice.

Transcendent – You are apart from Your creation.  You teach me about You.  Complaining makes You angry.  Manna (spiritual food) was not enough for them and they remember what they did have, and their greedy desires.  Moses even complains to You.  You promise they will have meat to eat.  You put Your Spirit upon the seventy elders.  Your spirit even rests upon the elders who are not around the tent.  You send many quail and the people take more than they need.

·       Your Spirit is a person being, a Him.  Why is the Spirit taken from Moses and placed upon the seventy elders.  Is the Spirit not able to rest upon everyone?

·       Spirit – Num 11:26; Judg 9:23; Job 17:1; Ps 51:10; Ps 77:3; Prov 16:18; Ezek 3:14; Dan 2:1; Zech 6:5; Matt 5:3; Matt 10:1; Matt 12:18; Matt 12:31; Matt 27:50; Mark 1:10; Luke 24:39; John 3:5; John 4:24; John 19:30; Acts 2:17; Acts 7:59; Rom 15:19; 1 Cor 2:13; 1 Cor 14:15; Gal 5:16; Gal 5:22; Eph 4:4; Eph 5:18; Eph 6:17; 1 Thess 5:19

·       You can send an evil spirit.

·       My spirit is broken.  I have a spirit… renew a steadfast spirit with me.

·       When I sigh, then my spirit grows faint.  Ps 55:2: 142:2; 61:2; 143:4

o   Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before stumbling.

o   So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away… Ezek 3:14

o   …”These are the four spirits of heaven, going forth after standing before You of all the earth…”  Zech 6:5

Jer 49:36; Ezek 37:9; Dan 7:2; 11:4; Matt 24:31; Rev 7:1

o   Jesus gave His twelve disciples authority over unclean spirits.

o   Jesus is not resurrected as a Spirit.  “…touch me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.”

o   …which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thought with spiritual words.  WAY COOL!

Sovereign – It is You Israel worships.  It is You I worship.  It is You who consumed some of the outskirts of the camp of Israel burning them up.  You give them meat and manna to eat.  You remain with them.  You take of the Spirit who was upon Moses and placed him upon the seventy elders.  It is You who strike the people with a very severe plague.  You are in complete control and You are doing Your foreknown plan!

Incomprehensible – Does Jesus complain to You?  He prays to You.  Is Moses the same as Jesus?  Is manna the same as spiritual food?  In verse 32, isn’t that a common, typical human response to control?  They are wandering through the Empty Quarter of the Arabian Desert where nothing grows – no food, no water and over 600,000 of them, not knowing where they are going or what they are doing.  Only a year of freedom, from complete slavery in Egypt.  Wouldn’t that be a good representation to hell?  Very hot, dry, and deserted, they are very alone.  I have a God I know is there based on faith of someone I cannot see or hear or taste or touch or feel.  All of my senses say there is nothing – there is no one there.  I must be crazy.  And I am not lost.  I do not eat manna everyday day after day.  I am not hungry or thirsty or have to carry my house and possessions in the Arabian Desert.  What is faith My LORD?  I know faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen, but what does that mean?  Jesus said if I have faith as a mustard see, I would say to this mountain ‘Move from here to there’, and it would move; and nothing would be impossible to me.  Everything seems impossible.  I must not have any faith at all.
