Deuteronomy Chapter 34

Omniscient – You know everything.  You know Moses.  You know his death.  You know Joshua.  You know his wisdom.  You know the past and the future.  You know Israel.  You know me.  You know my heart and my mind.  You are all-knowing.

Omnipotent- You can do anything.  You have Moses see the land.  You have Joshua filled with the Spirit of wisdom.  You have the sons of Israel listen to him.  You have them mourn thirty days and move on.  You make me understand if You just wanted to.  You are all-powerful.

Omnipresent – You are everywhere.  You are in the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top os Pisgah, opposite Jericho.  You are in Gilead as far as Dan, and all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah as far as the western sea, and the Negev and the plain in the valley of Jericho as far as Zoar.  You are in Your WORD.  You are here with me. You are in my heart and in my mind.  You are all-present.

Eternal – You are the cause of time.  You are now and then and when.  You cause one hundred and twenty years of age.  You are to this day and thirty days.  You are 3,400 years.  You are time.

Immutable – You do not change.  Moses the servant of you died there in the land of Moab, according to the Word of You.  The sons of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days.  You will never be made to change.

Self – Existent – You exist by Yourself.  You make up Moses’ existence and Joshua’s existence.  You make up Israel’s existence and Your Word’s existence.  You make up my existence.  You decide when Moses will die.  You will exist even when Your creation does not.

Self-Sufficient – You do not need any of Your creation to bring about Your will or Your purpose.  You choose to use Moses and Joshua, Israel and Your WORD, and me because it is Your good pleasure, not Your need, that governs Your choice.

Infinite – There are no limits or bounds to Your person or dominion.  There is no limit to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob’s descendents.    You are limitless.

Transcendent – You are apart from Your creation.  You teach me about Yourself.  You teach me about Moses’ death and how the sons of Israel started listening to Joshua who was filled with the spirit of wisdom in Moses’ place.

Sovereign – You take Moses to see the land.  You take Moses to the place You choose.  You will give the land to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob’s descendants who You choose, not to Moses.  Moses was Your servant, whom You knew face to face.  Moses performed all the signs and wonder which You sent him to perform in the land of Egypt against Pharaoh, all his servants, and all his land, and for all the almighty power and for all the great terror which Moses performed in the sight of all Israel.  You are in complete control and You are doing Your foreknown plan!

Holy – You are a morally excellent, perfect being.  Moses was separated for Your purpose.  I am separated by Your truth through your Son for Your purpose.

Gracious – You show Your people – You show Moses Your compassion by showing him all the land the sons of Israel will possess.

Merciful – You show him compassion by taking care of him for 120 years, his eyes were not dim, nor his vigor abated.

Righteous – You did not let him cross over but You let him see the land.  You showed him the right way.  It is Your way.

Longsuffering - You are patient with Moses and slow to anger.  He is Your servant.

Just – You reward the righteous who follow You and obey you, You atone for sin, and You punish the unrighteous who do not treat You as holy.

Loving – You love Your people and You take care of them.  You let Moses see it with his eyes.  You buried him in the valley in the land of Moab, opposite Beth-peor; but no man knows his burial place to this day.

Good – You give Your people a part of Yourself.  You showed Moses all the land, Gilead as far as Dan, and all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah as far as the western sea, and the Negev and the plain in the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar.

Wise – You show Moses the land.  Moses died there in the land of Moab.  Joshua took Moses’ place.  You knew Moses face to face.  Your wisdom is higher than my wisdom.  Your thoughts are higher than my thoughts.

Truthful - You always speak the truth.  Moses was Your servant and You knew him face to face.  Joshua was filled with the spirit of wisdom.  Your speak the reality.  Your Word is Your truth.

Faithful – You have let Moses see the land with his eyes, but he shall not go over there.  You always do what You Promise.  Since then no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom You knew face to face.  Faith is not knowing that You can, but that You will.

Wrathful - You destroy all unrighteousness who does not listen to you or obey You.

Jealous – You will not share Moses who are rightly and morally Yours with any other person or creature.  You buried him so no man knows his burial place to this day.

Incomprehensible – How does Chapters 32, 33, and 34 go together?  How do they relate to each other?  What do they say about You?  Why did You show Moses all the land?  Why did You speak to him?  What does ‘the servant of the LORD’ mean?  Num 12:7; Josh 4:2

·      How is Moses faithful when he does not treat You as holy?

·      Why did You bury him?  So the people would not worship him?  Why did the sons of Israel only weep for Moses thirty days?  The days of weeping and mourning for Moses came to an end?  Is he as nothing?  What did You feel?  Are You so unemotional?  Why My LORD?

·      Why does it say ‘since then no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses’?  Isn’t Jesus a prophet You have risen just like Moses, whom you know face to face?  Why does it say this?  Is it because Jesus did not perform all the signs and wonders in the land of Egypt against pharaoh, all his servants, and all his land that Moses did?  Jesus did not or has not performed all the great terror Moses performed in the sight of all Israel.

·      Great terror.  Great terror.  The servant of the LORD, a holy man, a murderer and terrorist?  Dark and frightening, yet good and loving.
