Deuteronomy Chapter 23

Omniscient – You know everything.  You know Your love. You know why You have Your commandments.   You know what they do for Your people.   You know what they mean.  You know what is evil and filthy and an abomination to You.  You know Your love and how You want us to love.  You know Your WORD. You know me.  You know my heart and my mind.  You are all-knowing.

Omnipotent- You can do anything.  You make the emasculated and the one of illegitimate birth and the Ammorite and Moabite.  You make curses into blessings.  You make who You want to holy.  You make me understand and teach me and help me if You just wanted to.  You are all-powerful.

Omnipresent – You are everywhere.  You are in the assembly of You.  You are in Egypt and from Pethor of Mesopotamia.  You are in the camp and outside the camp.  You are in the midst of my camp and Israel’s camp.  You are in the land and in my neighbor’s vineyard and my neighbor’s standing grain.  You are in Your WORD.  You are here with me. You are in my heart and in my mind.  You are everywhere.

Eternal – You are the cause of time.  You are all the days of my life.  You are when and then and now.  You are evening and at sundown.  You are time.

Immutable – You do not change.  I may charge interest to a foreigner, but to my countryman I shall not charge interest, so that You my God may bless me in all that I undertake in the land which I am about to enter to possess.  You will never be made to change.

Self – Existent – You exist by Yourself.  You choose.  You decide.  You make up those who are emasculated and those who are illegitimate.  You make up the Ammonite’s existence and the Moabites existence.  You make up the Edomites’ existence and the Egyptian’s existence.  You make humans the way that they are.  You make up my existence.  You decide who lives and who dies.  It is Your creation who needs You for their existence.

Self-Sufficient – You do not need any of Your creation to bring about Your will or Your purpose.  You choose to use the man who has been emasculated and the one of illegitimate birth and the Ammonite and the Moabite and the Edomite and the Egyptian and  Your WORD and me because it is Your good pleasure, not Your need, that governs Your choice.

Infinite – There are no limits or bounds to Your person or dominion.  You make descendants, even to the tenth generation.  You make the sons of the third generation.  You are eternal and can go wherever You want.  You can do anything and You know everything.  You are limitless.

Transcendent – You are apart from Your creation.  You teach me about Yourself.  You teach me who will not and who can enter the assembly of You.  You teach me not to detest an Edomite or an Egyptian.  You are teaching me that You must not see anything indecent among me.  You teach me not to hand over a slave who has escaped. You teach me about there being no cult prostitutes or no interest and about vows. You teach me about my neighbor’s vineyard and my neighbor’s standing grain. You teach me about love and a tender regard and concern for man.  You teach me about deep and tender feelings and devotion for You.

Sovereign – You say who and who does not enter the assembly of You.  You say when.  You have Your people do what You command.  You teach me about You and Your heavenly throne.  It is You I worship.  You are in complete control and You are doing Your foreknown plan!

Holy – You are a morally excellent, perfect being.  You separate Your people for Your person.  You separate me by Your Word through your Son for Your purpose.

Gracious – You show Your favor to Your people by keeping them from every evil things.  You protect me and lead me.

Merciful – You show Your compassion to Your people by freeing a slave and cleansing the unclean.  You give me Your commandments to bring me closer to You and give me away to go.

Longsuffering - You are patient with Your people and slow to anger.  You repeat Your commandments over and over and write them on my heart and in my mind.

Righteous – You are always right.  Your commandments are the right way.  You teach me Your Ways.

Just – You reward the righteous who listen to You, atone for sin and cleanse the unclean, and You punish the guilty.

Loving – You love Your people and You take care of them.  You give them what they need even when they don’t know they need it.

Good – You give Your people a part of Yourself You have Your people assemble and cleanse themselves and to love one another and You, to vow to You, to do all of the things You do for us and want for us.

Wise – Your wisdom causes You to give me important information about You and Your heavenly throne.  Your wisdom is higher than my wisdom.  Your thoughts are higher than my thoughts.

Truthful - You always speak the truth.  Your Word is Your reality.  You do what You say.  All of Your commandments are what You say.

Faithful – You always do what You mean, and what You promise.  I shall be careful to perform what does out from my lips, just as I have voluntarily vowed to You My God, what I have promised You.  You are my God and You write Your laws and commandments on my heart and in my mind.

Wrathful - You destroy all unrighteousness.

Jealous – You will not share me or Your people, who are rightly and morally Yours with any other creature.  Your people serve only You.  You are God.  You are one.  You are Jehovah God.

Incomprehensible – Why, My LORD, does it matter if a man is emasculated or has his male organ cut off?  Is it his fault?  What does it mean?  Why does it matter if one is of illegitimate birth?  Is it that person’s fault?  Am I illegitimate?  No one wants to be emasculated or have his male organ cut off or be illegitimate.  Why do You punish them for something done to them that they did not do to themselves because they wanted it?

Who are Ammonites and Moabites?  Why do You repeat information about Balaam of Peor in verse 5?  What does this say about You?  You love me so much You do not listen to a curse but turn it into a blessing?  Are the Ammonites and Moabites at peace and have prosperity?  Who are the Edomites and the Egyptians?  How do I not detest them?  How are they different from the Ammonites and Moabites?  Why are the sons of the third generation who are born to them different from the first generation?

When I do out as an army against my enemies how do I keep myself from every evil thing?  Especially since I go to murder my enemies?  Why are nocturnal emission unclean?  Why do You make man that way if it is so bad?  Why is it indecent?

You walk in the midst of the camp just as You walk in the midst of my camp.  How do I be holy?

Being a cult prostitute is not loving You.  Charging interest is not loving each other.  You teach me when a vow is not loving You.  How do I perform what goes out from my lips?  What have I said?  What am I saying?  What do I do?  How do I not say what I cannot do?  I am afraid and I am fainthearted My LORD.  What do I do?  Teach me My LORD.  Teach me quickly before I die.

What does versus 24 and 25 mean?  Why is it in this chapter?  It is related to loving my neighbor but how does it relate to me?  If I were to do that wouldn’t it be stealing?  Is there a difference between taking what I can eat and taking what I can carry?  Isn’t it just as bad – stealing?  What does this mean?  What am I supposed to do?

Who are You My LORD?  What do You do?  Why do You do the things You do?  When will I know You and understand?
