Leviticus Chapter 15
Omniscient – You know everything. You know what to say to Moses and Aaron to say to the sons of Israel. You know all of the different discharges. You know women do not have control over their bodies, well unless we take drugs to stop our periods or alter our body through implants and surgeries, then I wouldn’t be unclean every month for 2 weeks. You know that right now I am clean, well maybe I am because I am not bleeding although I am discharging something so I must be unclean. Otherwise I am always unclean. Everyone around me is also unclean. You are all-knowing.
Omnipotent - You make men and women have discharge. You make seminal emission and You make menstrual periods in order for us to propagate. What is wrong with MY BLOOD My LORD? Why do I have to take the Coumadin? Punishment? Laziness? Why have I stopped having periods? Why do I not feel well? What is wrong with me? You make it to happen. You are all-powerful.
Omnipresent – You are everywhere. You are at the doorway of the tent of meeting. You are here with me. You are in my heart. You are all-present.
Eternal – You are the cause of time. You are seven days and seven more days. You are the eighth day. You are 3,000 years ago and You are today. You are time.
Immutable – You do not change. The priest shall make atonement on a man’s behalf before You because of his discharge. If a man lies with a woman so that there is seminal emission, they shall both bathe in water and be unclean until evening which will happen. That must happen or we would cease to exist yet it makes us unclean. If a man actually lies with her, so that her menstrual impurity is on him, he shall be unclean seven days, and every bed on which he lies shall be unclean. The priest shall make atonement on her behalf before You because of her impure discharge. This is the law for the one with a discharge, and for the man who has a seminal emission so that he is unclean by it. You will never be made to change.
Self – Existent – You exist by Yourself. You make up our existence. We would not be able to exist if You did not. You make up Moses and Aaron’s existence. You make all discharges to exist. You make man and woman and You make man and woman unclean. You make it. You decide.
Self-Sufficient – You do not need any of Your creation to bring about Your will or Your purpose. You choose to use Moses and Aaron and all the sons of Israel. You choose to use discharges to make us unclean. You choose to use Your laws and Your creations because it is Your good pleasure, not Your need, that governs Your choice.
Infinite – There are no limits or bounds to Your person or dominion. You do not have limits to the discharges or what You do.
Transcendent – You are apart from Your creation. You teach Moses and Aaron to make a distinction between what is clean and unclean. You have them teach the sons of Israel and through them Your Word teaches me. I want to listen. I predict there is more than just my menstrual period that is unclean. What does it mean? When I visualize being unclean for 2 weeks and having to go to the priest to make atonement and offerings for something I have no control over I start to get angry. I make the connection every time I have a period. Assigning these attributes are organizing, summarizing, and taking notes. I am trying to evaluate Your message. I hope I am developing a sensitivity to Your nonverbal communication. What am I supposed to learn? How does this relate to me? What are You saying?
Sovereign – It is You who speaks through Your WORD. It is You I am listening to. It is You I am trying to worship. You reveal Yourself through your Word but I am stupid. You are very specific about discharges and being unclean. You want us to be clean. You want us to wash our clothes and bathe in water. You are in complete control and You are doing Your foreknown plan!
Holy – You are a morally excellent, perfect being. You sanctify the clean and the unclean for Your purpose.
Gracious – You show the sons of Israel Your favor by teaching them to make a distinction.
Merciful – You show the sons of Israel Your compassion by knowing their circumstances and helping them to be clean before You.
Longsuffering – You are patient with the sons of Israel and slow to anger.
Just – You punish the guilty, make the guilty clean, and reward the righteous.
Loving – You love the sons of Israel and give them Your instructions for their benefit.
Good – You reveal Yourself in Your laws of what is clean and what is not clean and how to get clean before You.
Wise – Your wisdom causes You to do the things You do and make the discharges unclean and when a male or female may become clean.
Righteous – You are always right. Your altar and offering and making a person clean are the right ways.
Truthful – What You say is always truth. This is the law for the one with a discharge, and for the man who has a seminal emission so that he is unclean by it, and for the woman who is ill because of menstrual impurity, and for the one who has a discharge, whether a male or a female, or a man who lies with an unclean woman.
Faithful – You always do what You promise. I have not gotten sick. I have not gotten my son’s cold just as You have promised. You are My God and You are with me. You are Israel’s God and they are Your possession just as You promised Abraham.
Wrathful – You will destroy all unrighteousness.
Jealous – You will not share Israel who are rightly and morally Yours with any other creature.
Incomprehensible – Is there a spiritual discharge? Are You making up uncleanness for him? Why do You say ‘shall be his uncleanness in his discharge’?
Anything not clean do not touch and wash hands and clothes and bather.
These are descriptions of all these different circumstances. You have seven days and on the eighth day just as when You ordained and consecrated the priests.
A man with a seminal emission is only unclean 1 day whereas a woman is unclean for fourteen days every month. It is a punishment. Women would have to be completely isolated or make everyone and everything unclean. What are You teaching? What am I supposed to know? How does this relate to me?
