Moral Attributes
You are Holy. I shall be holy, for You Jehovah my God are holy. Therefore, listen to me, we men of understanding. Far be it from God to do wickedness, and from the Almighty to do wrong. You are the high and exalted One who lives forever, whose name is Holy. You dwell on a high and holy place, and also with the contrite and lowly of spirit in order to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite. You are a morally excellent, perfect being. You are totally other than man! You are purity of being in every aspect.
You are Gracious. Jehovah, Jehovah God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet You will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and forth generations. For if I return to Jehovah, my brothers and my sons will find compassion before those who led them captive, and will return to this land. For Jehovah my God is gracious and compassionate, and will not turn Your face away from me if I return to You. And the Child continues to grow and become strong, increasing in wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him. Your grace is sufficient for me, for power is perfected in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may dwell in me. You are a God of grace and always operates on the basis of Your graciousness.
You are Merciful. You are lovingkindness and compassionate. And lovingkindness is Yours, O Lord, for You do recompense a man according to his work. But You, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness and truth. Nevertheless You looked upon their distress, when You heard their cry; and You remembered Your covenant for their sake, and relented according to the greatness of Your lovingkindness. Your lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for Your compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. You Jehovah are gracious and merciful; slow to anger and great in lovingkindness. You Jehovah are good to all, and Your mercies are over all Your works. You are an actively compassionate being. You respond compassionately toward those who have opposed Your will in pursuit of their own will.
You are Righteous. The Rock! Your work is perfect, for all Your ways are just; a God of faithfulness and without injustice, righteous and upright are You. Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and Your law is truth. You are always good.
You are Just. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; lovingkindness and truth go before You. You are not a man, that You should lie, nor a son of man, that You should repent; Have You said, and will You not do it? Or have You spoken, and will You not make it good? What shall we say then? There is no injustice with You, is there? May it never be! You are fair in all Your actions. Since You know all, every decree is absolutely just.
You are Longsuffering. Jehovah, You are slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but You will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generations. The Lord is not slow about Your promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward me, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. Your righteous anger is slow to be kindled against those who fail to listen to Your warnings or obey Your instructions. Your eternal longing for the highest good for Your creation holds back Your holy justice.
You are Loving. But You demonstrate Your own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. The one who does not love does not know You, for You are love. So that Christ may dwell in my heart through faith; and that me, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that I may be filled up to all the fullness of You. Your love moves You to give Yourself for another, a love causes You to desire Your creatures highest good. This love is not based upon the worth, response, or merit of the object being loved.
You are Good. You indeed are good for Your lovingkindness is everlasting. Praise Jehovah! Hallelujah! Oh give thanks to Jehovah, for You are good; for Your lovingkindness is everlasting. In Your goodness You give to others, not according to what they deserve but according to Your good will and kindness toward them.
You are Wise. Do I not know? Have I not heard? The Everlasting God, Jehovah, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. Your understanding is inscrutable. Let the name of You be blessed forever and ever, for wisdom and power belong to You. Your actions are based on Your character. Your wisdom caused You to choose righteous ends and to make the most fitting plans to achieve those ends.
Truthful – You are not a man, that You should lie, nor a son of man, that You should repent; have You said, and will You not do it? Or have You spoken, and will You not make it good? Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. In the hope of eternal life, which You, who cannot lie, promised long ages ago. All that You say is reality. Whatever You speak is truth.
You are Faithful. Know therefore that Jehovah my God, You are God, the faithful God, who keeps Your covenant and Your lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love You and keep Your commandments. If I am faithless, You remain faithful; for You cannot deny Yourself. You are always true to Your promises.
You are Wrathful. For the wrath of You is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness. He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of You abides on him. And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him and said to King Jehoshaphat, “Should you help the wicked and love those who hate Jehovah and so bring wrath on yourself from Jehovah?” Should I help the wicked and love those who hate Jehovah and so bring wrath on myself from Jehovah? Therefore consider the members of my earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. For it is on account of these things that the wrath of You will come. And one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of You, who lives forever and ever. There is within You a hatred for all that is unrighteous and an unquenchable desire to punish all unrighteousness.
You are Jealous. For I shall not worship any other god, for Jehovah, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. You are Jehovah, that is Your name; You will not give Your glory to another, nor Your praise to graven images. You are unwilling to share what is rightly and morally Yours with any other creature.
